Anthony is close to two metropolitan areas and offers a quiet county lifestyle in a rural setting. Anthony has two golf courses, Dos Lagos Golf Course and the Anthony County Club Golf Course which is located along the Rio Grande River.
Twenty minutes from Anthony to the north is Las Cruces, NM and to the south is El Paso, Texas. Each city affords Anthony residents all the amenities of the city, including shopping, restaurants, cinema, theatre, museums and live entertainment. Or you can cross the border into Juarez, Mexico and enjoy Mexican cuisine, markets and entertainment. In Juarez, transportation into Chihuahua’s Copper Canyon or Chihuahua City can be easily arranged.
Elephant Butte Lake is a one and a half hour north of Anthony, a popular get-a-way, offers boating, fishing, camping and water or jet skiing.
Snow skiing is abundant in New Mexico. Three hours northeast in Ruidoso, NM is the home of Ski Apache and Ruidoso Down Racetrack. A five hours drive north skiing can be enjoyed in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Taos, Angelfire and the Red River ski areas.
The historic town of Old Mesilla is within a twenty minute drive from Anthony. Old Mesilla has played a significant part in history, from the Gadsden Purchase, the Civil War, the Butterfield Stage Coach Trail and the Trail of Billy the Kid. Old Mesilla’s Plaza, which once was a refuge against raiding Apache’s, is now the home of many quaint shops, bed and breakfast and world-renown restaurants in the historic buildings surrounding the Plaza. Though out the year many activities are held at the plaza, such as Cinco De Mayo, 16th of Septiembre, Art Fairs and music events. On Christmas Eve the Plaza comes to life with thousands of luminaries outlining the streets.
